Shower Wall Tile Thickness
Ceramic can be applied on the floor shower and wall so you don t have to worry about the wall tile thickness allowance and where you can use it compared to other tiles.

The vast majority of porcelain tiles are 6mm to 10mm thick and a tile in this range will serve most purposes. Do not use untreated drywall spend a little more money at the start and you will have a bathroom that lasts ten years. Standard tile thickness standard porcelain tile thickness ranges between 1 4 and 3 4 inch thick. This allows the installer to float the walls described later and know that there would be no need to cut tiles on at least two walls.
When your wall is longer than one sheet of villaboard you will join two sheets together. Most ceramic tiles are 12 by 12 inches but small tiles such as mosaic on mesh can be as thin as 1 8 inch and go up to 3 8 inch. From a visual standpoint tile smaller than 4 inches square creates a busy appearance. Thin usually 1 8 or thinner and inexpensive shower panels made of mdf medium density fiberboard or fiberglass or acrylic wall panels.
The average minimum thickness is the same for both materials but porcelain tiles come in thicker options. Simple tiles are 1 4 thick mortar to hold the tiles on is 1 8 thick and the concrete board that you installed around your shower is 1 2 thick. For shower walls generally it is best to use larger tiles from 4 inch by 4 inch tiles on upward to large format tiles in the 15 inch by 30 inch range. Thicker and slightly more expensive lines of solid surface or laminated wall panels.
